I just got this in my Inbox, right over an e-mail with the subject line "OxyContin and Carpools":

Dear Tom:

I am pleased to tell you that your petition to graduate has been
accepted by the MFA Academic Board, and you should plan to graduate in
January 2008, pending successful completion of your final semester and
the other requirements for the degree as listed in the Program Handbook.

Congratulations on the acceptance of your petition, and best wishes for
a productive semester.

Yours,

Peter Turchi
Director

So that's basically all I have to say.

That and that I rallied and at this precious instant I am now batting .500 at Scrabulous. Which is like Scrabble except you play it on your Facebook. And if you play it with me, I will equitably divide our wins and losses.

Congrats! Also, thanks for the reminder on Scrabulous. I liked the idea when I heard you discussing it during my visit, and then I forgot to add it to my book of faces. Now, though, we are engaged in word combat.

Thanks!

And, yeah, my Scrab play has slowed down in the past few days, but it's the weekend.

Yeah slow is fine, it's like playing chess by mail or something, it'll get done whenever.

Dear Ms. Incandenza,
Due to the large number of mail the New Orleans Saints are so fortunate enough to receive from all across the 2nd InterLace Grid, we regrettably say ORIN INCANDENZA #71 can not answer your letter in person, however, on behalf of the New Orleans Saints "ORIN" has asked me to say Thank-You for your message of support, and best wishes.
Inclosed, please accept a special, color 20 x 25 centimeter personally autographed action photo of ORIN INCANDENZA #71 , as our way of saying Thank-You and how important you're letter has been to us.
Cordially,

Jethro Bodine
Assistant Mailroom Technician
And c.

Don't have a copy of pale fire around, so I thought that might suffice.

I was trying to think of a worthwhile response from the book, like digging up one of Avril's letters to Orin or somesuch.

Man, that book. Goodness gracious my-oh-my.

I'm not sure "book" is even the proper word to describe it. We are talking about a case where the signifier couldn't come further from describing the signified.

You know, in the end, I do alright for myself.
